I am currently studying for a PhD in linguistics at Lancaster University. My main (read “PhD”) interest is in protests against austerity measures, particularly welfare reform, implemented by the current Coalition government, hinging upon the following areas:

  • Protesters responses to the spread of neoliberalism and ‘new’ capitalism, both online (particularly through social media) and offline
  • The extension of Critical Discourse Analysis to account for resistance discourse(s)
  • The ethics of social media research, of social movement research, and of CDA research (including “impact” and the normative goals of CDA)

Aside from this, I’m interested in pretty much anything CDA-related (including new approaches to visuals), anything anarchist-y or social media-y…¬†and I also make electronic music under a variety of pseudonyms…
